Hi all. I am a mom and a journalist. I’m pro globalization and I want our communities to enrich, and be enriched by the world we live in. I like to write about everyday issues affecting all of us like developments in technology, importance of organic and local food markets, a certain hesitancy among the local Indian crowd in assimilating well with mainstream America et al.
I want people to thrive and I think we can do that by becoming more participative in everyday issues. Let’s not stay isolated anymore!

I started my career 15 yrs ago by freelancing for The Indian Express, Times of India and The Tribune in Chandigarh. I took the Express’ editing test the day I turned 21 and I joined it within the week as an editor. I wrote on many different issues and alcoholism, drug de-addiction, musings on popular culture, esp of the nouveau riche, political crowd of Chandigarh have been some of my favorite topics to write on.
I moved to America for love 7 yrs ago and now, I spend my time writing for the PI, NPR, being a mom, doing PR work and now, this blog. My last project, a press release on Sahaja Yoga was carried prominently by Yahoo News.

I hope to see fun, thought provoking posts on this blog. I’d love to see more Indian folks get involved on this forum as well.

Prynka, It’s very fascinating how you write about interactive and healthy topics. I like the creativity and fresh thinking you infuse in `day to day’ but important matters. It will encourage many more indian writers to come out of the closet and demonstrate how much wealth of knowledge and creativity we have.

KARPOOR CHANDRA KULISH INTERNATIONAL AWARD 2008
Year 1956, nine years after Independence of India, one journalist dared to dream of a newspaper free from influences and interests, totally credible, wedded to truth and public good and devoid of commercial concerns and set about making it a reality. Karpoor Chandra Kulish’s dream and ideals drove him to launch Rajasthan Patrika with a borrowed capital of Rs 500 (about 100 US dollars then).
Rajasthan Patrika, a hindi daily, under the flagship of Patrika group, has become the most trusted & credible voice in print media, published out of country’s largest State Rajasthan. Apart from running immensely successful 12 editions from Rajasthan alone, Rajasthan Patrika also runs 5 editions in Non-hindi speaking States namely West Bengal, Gujarat, Kanataka & Tamil Nadu. These editions are published from Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Chennai & Kolkata. Apart from before mentioned editions of the daily, the group also publishes newspapers namely ‘Patrika’, ‘News Today’ & ‘Daily News’. “Patrika” is being currently published from Bhopal & Indore in M.P. with a plan to cover all of MP+Chattisgarh in next few years.
The phenomenal growth from virtual scratch was possible only due to Karpoor Chandra Kulish’s grit and determination and his faith in the people of Rajasthan, who responded generously to his brand of journalism based on truth, courage and independence. Karpoor Chandra Kulish never swerved from the path of fairness and honesty. Professional excellence went hand in hand with coverage of news and expression of views always focused on public interest and welfare. He set high standards and healthy traditions for his successors to imbibe and follow.
Even today, the ideals and traditions of Karpoor Chandra Kulish remain the driving force for Rajasthan Patrika. In a recent BBC-Reuters survey, Rajasthan Patrika was listed among the top five “most trusted” publications of the country. The interests and problems of citizens as readers remain the newspaper’s prime focus and concern.
KC Kulish International Award’2008
The Rajasthan Patrika Group is glad to announce the Second Karpoor Chandra Kulish International Award 2008 (KCKI Award 2008). This annual award, in the hallowed memory of Karpoor Chandra Kulish, is aimed at recognizing efforts of thought leaders in media, journalist’s outstanding contributions to upholding professional values as well as protecting and promoting ethics and morality, right and freedom of the people for better quality of life. The award theme for the year 2008 shall be ” Terrorism & Society”.
“Terrorism & Society”:
The Second KC Kulish International Award for excellence in print journalism will be open to those who have authored and published the most compelling news-stories in media contributing to changing the lives and meeting the aspirations of people. The world media, in particular the print media, assumes a crucial role when it comes to handling the most critical situations. It assumes high level of responsibility when it comes to reporting events of sensitive significance. It is our humble endeavour to honour those journalists who strived hard to help the society to fight and safeguard itself from several eventualities in mind and spirit. The central point of this award is that journalists accomplish their work through a narrative duality. During everyday news, journalists apply a professional narrative that represents a balance between their core journalistic values and the social pressures from their working world. When society’s core values are under threat—such as with physical or political violence or terrorist attacks—journalists switch to a cultural narrative that moves the public mind back toward the dominant cultural order.
